Mid-Del Tinker KC

The Mid Del Tinker Kennel Club, Inc. was formed in 1960 to serve the dog fancy needs in the Midwest City, Del City, and Tinker Air Force Base area. Its purpose is to encourage and promote the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs. Further, it is to conduct dog shows, obedience trials, and sanctioned matches under the rules of the American Kennel Club, Inc., the official registry of purebred dogs in the United States. Its purpose is also to make specific bequests to charitable or civic organizations as determined by the majority of paid members at any meeting where such bequest is being submitted. The purpose of such contributions have included, but not been limited to, buying equipment for the Oklahoma State Veterinary School, bullet proof vests for the police dogs in our area, donating to local dog shelters, scholarships for Veterinary students and many more over the years.

Mid Del Tinker members also are committed to promoting quality breeding of purebred dogs and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection and to urge members and breeders to accept the written standard of each breed as determined by each breeds' Parent Club. This standard is the only standard of excellence by which respective breeds become and earn the title “Champion.”

In keeping with the above criteria, Mid Del Tinker Kennel Club holds all breed championship dog shows yearly. These all breed dog shows were held in our approved area until we outgrew (number of dogs entered at each show) the local facilities. Having to move into other club’s approved territories, Mid Del now has the approval of the Oklahoma City Kennel Club to have our shows in conjunction with them each year. We have grown so large we now are occupying the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.

We must, to retain American Kennel Club approval, hold at least one yearly activity in the Midwest City, Del City, Tinker Air Force area. This activity in the form of a sanctioned match is currently being held in August in conjunction with the Canine Experience.

We also hold our monthly club meetings in Midwest City, on the 3rd Wed of each month at 7:00PM. Contact Mary Williams at 405-525-0633 for details. These meetings are open to anyone interested in purebred dogs or becoming educated in various breeds. Guests are welcome to attend any meetings or functions of the club. One has to attend three meetings and then be sponsored by members of the club before they can apply to become a member. If you apply, a home inspection will be conducted by a “membership committee” and a written report will be submitted to the Board of Directors, prior to being elected to membership. The club members serve as mentors for many breeds and via our breed referral program, we can help locate a particular breed for interested parties. If you have any questions about the many different breed of dogs, or where you might be able to locate breeders in the area, we can certainly help you, or know whom to refer you to locate such a breed. The club maintains a breeder referral list and it is available upon request.

The recording secretary prepares a monthly Newsletter, which contains all information about the club, articles of importance for dog owners, legislative updates, articles on health, and many more items of interest.

Members of the Mid Del Tinker Club participate in many functions of the dog world. For example, we have members who participate with their trained and certified Therapy Dogs, making weekly visits to local hospitals, nursing homes, children hospitals, and other organizations in which these dogs are found to be useful.

We have certified CGC testers. These members test any dog to see if they are worthy of the title, CGC, meaning "Canine Good Citizen". We have judges as members who participate in judging all over the world. Many of the members are qualified and do various types of dog training.

The club has many social events, picnics, Christmas Dinner, etc. The club members spend many hours each month working on the show plans, which is a never ending task.
